The Magic Fabric Of Our Dreaming

i had the great pleasure of traveling to hong kong with my husband, john, in late february/early march this year. it was for only 4 days, but we sure had a blast!

the trip functioned as a kind of early-40th-birthday-treat for me (my actual birthday was on march 26), so we made sure to make it count. we came prepared with a whole list of places to eat, stores to shop, and sites to visit. and while we did not get to cross off every single one of them (the list was insanely long + it rained some of the time we were there), we got to squeeze in so much that it became a truly memorable holiday for us both.

i knew we would be walking a lot on this trip, so i made sure to come prepared. i packed some orthotic insoles to help me be more comfortable, since i tend to experience bouts of foot pain and discomfort, particularly during longer durations of being on my feet. honestly, orthotic insoles are now a luggage essential for me any time i travel. even when i don’t end up using them, the peace of mind they provide is simply invaluable.

day 2 was undoubtedly our most eventful day. i clocked in almost 20k steps total, which was a lot, considering we slept in and didn’t start walking around the city until about noontime.

the day started off strong, too: we had our first roast meat plate of the trip at ki’son roasted goose along mong kok road. everything tasted delicious, but the highlights for us were the crispy roasted pork and soya chicken.

we also dropped by hashtag b in mongkok to try their famous egg tarts, which we ate at our hotel with some HK style milk tea—my absolute fave! we tried the regular tart (i loved it; john found it a tad too sweet) and the pistachio flavor as well. the latter was absolutely delectable, if not a wee bit overpriced.

it was a straight walk down nathan road from our hotel to avenue of stars (a 2.7km distance, according to google), which was where we decided to spend our evening. along the way, we decided to pop into a few shops, including some that sold secondhand designer bags and watches. we didn’t find anything that we liked, but it was still fun to browse around.

i did end up buying the cutest bag at the coach boutique though! it’s called the trail bag, which has the look of a little vintage vanity case. it was love at first sight! i got it in the shade vanilla—a soft, buttery yellow IRL—and have used it several times since returning home.

it was a rather windy & chilly stroll down avenue of stars after that, amid a sea of locals and fellow tourists who decided to spend their sunday evening by victoria harbour. we warmed ourselves a bit inside K11 MUSEA, a jaw-dropping building that included a high-end mall/retail area. it was all SO stunning.

then we took a few photos with the ever reliable self-timer, our phones propped up on a small bush. fun times!

for dinner, we walked to a nearby ICHIRAN branch. since it was already later in the evening, the wait was, mercifully, not as long as you would normally expect. and while not the best i’ve ever had, their ramen was quite enjoyable!

it was straight to kai kai dessert after that. this michelin recommended dessert shop is a must visit if you are ever in hong kong! we enjoyed our little bowls of chilled, sweet, soupy bowls very much.

after our eventful day 2, we went to bed incredibly tired, with bellies full and hearts bursting with joy.

unfortunately, it drizzled almost the entire 3rd day of our trip—and outright poured buckets in the evening—so some of our plans fell through. instead of going on the tram to climb up victoria peak, and afterwards walking around central area, we spent most of our day browsing and shopping at various indoor locations. all in all, i guess you could say it wasn’t too bad. 😉

we also have a lovely dinner at ki’s roasted goose, where we both opted for crispy roast pork plates (with chicken in mine). delish!

day 4, our last day, came around too quickly. thankfully, our flight was not until 10pm so we basically had the entire day to spend in the city. we shopped for last minute bits and ate more of the stuff we loved (pineapple buns and milk teas, mostly).

also got myself a cheeky lil birthday gift. ♡ i’m not one to indulge much in luxury goods and designer items, but this had been on my wishlist for a while and i couldn’t pass it up. it’s just a small thing, really! any guesses what i got?

of course, no hong kong trip would be complete without a bakehouse sourdough egg tart. we bought four of them after dinner and then proceeded to devour every single one in what felt like a couple of minutes. lol – happy bellies once again!

this was my 6th trip to hong kong but i can say with certainty that it was my favorite one yet. i discovered so many new places and foods that i now long for with an ache in my heart; made memories that make me look forward to a day when we can return.

hong kong, i will see you again soon. <3

in the meantime, please do enjoy these snaps of me wearing my @vivaia_official loafers. they are made from recycled plastic bottles and are some of the cutest, softest shoes i own. 🍂
