The Story
oftentimes i put together an outfit practically on a random whim, and i feel a weird sense of satisfaction when an ensemble turns out greater than expected.
other times, an outfit simply evolves from a concrete, albeit basic, idea. take this for example. i originally planned to wear a crisp white shirt with the denim skirt. i was going to incorporate brown details — brown belt, brown shoes, brown bag. the tights weren’t in the picture then.
that was all fine and dandy. i knew it would work.
but i realized my legs are completely bruised right now (don’t ask why) and felt compelled to don the tights in spite our hot weather. i had to change the shoes in effect, because the brown ones looked weird with the tights. and in the end i removed everything brown from the outfit. as i was thinking it over, i saw one of my fashion magazines opened to a “fashion forecast” page and there i saw models in nautical striped tops. i thought, hey, mom has one of those and i’ve been meaning to borrow it! plus the vintage accessories were a no-brainer for me because i’ve always liked gold on red.
and there you have it. the story of this outfit. and i’m glad it turned out that way because i quite like the ending. (:
red striped top – mom’s
denim skirt – marithé + françois girbaud
patterned tights – mom’s
black studded booties – parisian
gold necklace and brooch – eBay
