Who Is He That Can Conquer Himself?
i finally got around to answering all your questions from my post last week. here goes!
what prompted you to be a fashion blogger? / what was your main motivation to start up this blog?
a few years ago i started getting involved in the online fashion community called wardrobe_remix, created by tricia royal. there, people are encouraged to think out-of-the-box when dressing up, and everyone pretty much follow their own set of fashion rules. i just loved it. after a while i noticed that some of my favorite remixers (the clothes horse and liebemarlene vintage, among others) had separate blogs where they elaborated more about their outfits and also talked about other things like their jobs and cute pets and day-to-day lives. i wanted to do that, too, and so here i am today (although still lacking a pet to blog about, hehe).
who was the first person you ever told about your blog?
my family always knew i was involved in the online fashion world, but i suppose most of them found out about my actual blog just recently. i’ve never been comfortable with telling people about my blog, even my closest friends, so i just kept it secret for a long time. i think a lot of bloggers feel that way, too.
what’s your height?
5’1”.
what’s your favourite colour? and what’s your favourite colour to wear?
mustard is my absolute favorite, but really, i love wearing all colors.
do you have a boyfriend? how did you meet him?
i do. we studied in the same school a long time ago (grade school, to be exact), but i only “formally” met him in mid-2009 when the facebook mania led a bunch of old schoolmates to get together. the rest, as they say, is history. (;
who are your fashion icons?
right now i pretty much just follow fashion bloggers from around the world. you can’t find better icons than everyday people whose style aesthetics you can most relate to! i am also drawn to people like agyness deyn, who can pull off almost any kind of look. love her or hate her, you can’t deny her penchant for all things quirky. i find that so hard to resist! and like most others, i also adore the styles of zooey deschanel, alexa chung and the olsen twins. throw in some classic katharine hepburn into the mix and i’m all set.
where do you shop?
thrift shops, mostly. i also shop at the usual mall haunts: topshop, zara, mango and the like. of course department stores are a given – so many affordable finds!
if you could go anywhere in the world for fashion week, where would it be?
new york, baby!
what’s your favorite item in your closet? / what is your favorite thing to wear?
i have so many, i don’t even know where to begin! off the top of my head… i love my oversized chambray shirt, plain mustard dress, blue polka dot dress from topshop, and basic black jeans. oh, and my tutu skirt too – although i don’t nearly wear it as often as i should. i’m also obsessed with pretty much all my maxi dresses and skirts at the moment.
a trend you’re looking forward to.
i’m really excited about 70’s-inspired s/s collections.
can you share any fashion faux pas you committed in the past?
it took me a while to answer this. on the one hand, i’m thinking, everyone must be guilty of this, right? but on the other hand is the question: in this day and age when self-expression is not only encouraged, but also celebrated, is there really STILL such a thing as a fashion faux pas? i know for a fact that i’ve been guilty of sporting sandals with socks and tights for years. faux pas, perhaps, but it doesn’t make them less appealing to me (or others, for that matter).
your style is so versatile, i feel like you can wear anything! is there any certain style that you feel you couldn’t or wouldn’t want to pull off?
bodycon anything – i just don’t have the body or the attitude to pull it off. haha. oh and, i’ve never been one to show too much skin, so i avoid skimpy things altogether.
what’s your makeup routine-if any? and what product can’t you live without?
my daily routine consists of a light liquid foundation (or a BB cream), concealer and powder to set. when i worked as a news reporter, eye make-up was a given, but now i don’t always bother with it anymore. i usually just put on some mascara and maybe blush if i’m not too lazy. but of course, night-outs are different as i usually go all-out with those. (: i can’t live without my mufe extreme camouflage cream, shu uemura eyelash curler and MAC 217 brush. i’ve also been really addicted to lip balm lately, so i always bring chapstick wherever i go.
do you think you’ll ever give up your long hair? have you ever had it short?
i’ll probably never give it up, but not by choice! i’ve always wanted to experiment with bobs and pixie cuts; sadly my face’s shape won’t allow it. and yes, i’ve had it short a few times in the past (mostly when i was a kid), which is why i know it just doesn’t work on me. my wish though is to someday be able to pull off michelle williams’ gorgeous pixie cut!
would you like to live in another town/country? / do you see yourself living in the philippines for the rest of your life?
i love to travel and my absolute dream is to see all corners of the world. but i am perfectly happy living where i do now: good ol’ manila in the philippines. (although new york is a close second.)
where do you see yourself in 10 years?
i’m gonna be totally lame and say… i have no idea. i pretty much just go where life takes me, one day at a time.
do you think blogging promotes “consumerism”? do you think that’s good/bad?
i suppose it does. i mean, i don’t think it’s possible to talk about clothes and shoes and so much other stuff this much without “promoting” consumerism one way or another. but i think (or hope, at least) most readers are smart and discerning enough to maintain healthy shopping habits and not get swayed by everything they see online, especially blogs. besides, most fashion bloggers i know advocate frugality by way of thrift shopping, DIY-ing, revamping old/vintage things and mix-n-matching what’s already in their closets.
could you tell us more about what you do at your new job?
i work as a copywriter at an up-an-coming advertising/events agency. i plan to do a separate post on this, so i’ll elaborate more on there! (;
show us your shoe collection, please!
i will try to work this into a future post. but really, there’s nothing much to see; i am no jane aldrige. haha.
thank you to everyone who posted their questions! ♥
