a friend thoughtfully commented that i looked quite normal in this outfit. well, “thoughtfully” might be a stretch — it was the first thing he blurted out upon seeing me. nowadays i can hardly tell the difference between commonplace remarks amongst acquaintances and those bordering on crudity or discourtesy. i know my friend meant no harm in his little remark, nor did i take any offense in it, but one can’t help but wonder what other unspoken thoughts linger in people’s heads when words like such are uttered…
