Trailing Behind

most of the time i am quite critical of the new things that i buy. perhaps it is a shopping mechanism i have learned to hone with age (not that i am old, mind you), but i do often find myself thinking and re-thinking my possible purchases, coming up with pros and cons and what-not — frequently resulting to a rather empty-handed shopping trip. don’t get me wrong; i still splurge every so often and have certainly learned to buy the things that i truly fall in love with. i have experienced one too many regrets in letting wonderful things slip through my fingers, so i now allow myself some bit of impulse that can sometimes surpass critical discernment.
this masterpiece of a blouse, however, seems to have drifted in a nice little middle ground between those two opposing sentiments. i knew i loved it the moment my fingers grazed its wondrous, glittery surface, and yet immediately i doubted its compatibility with my style. where would i wear it? can i even pull it off? moments passed with me clutching onto the delicate fabric, imagining a hundred potential outfits in my head and all sorts of circumstances that may lead to my wearing such a piece without looking like a complete mess.
truthfully my rational brain barely reached a handful of possible looks to pair it with, but as you can see, i got the top anyway. see that’s the thing about falling in love: it can’t be helped. you forgo reason and go with your heart.

Oh, I understand just what you mean when you say this. I have a top similar to this that I haven’t had the heart to rip the tags off of yet. Maybe it’s time to do so now 🙂

We all do feel the same way. Sometimes we let the pretty stuff slip away or buy the ‘love only at first sight’ and regret it at the end of the day. i also felt that recently. but like you say bestie, we learn from all our mistakes.thank goodness! 🙂
