Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Toner Review
a few months ago, when i finally started to focus on and develop my skincare routine (about time, i know!), i went on an online research spree to find out what’s abuzz in the beauty world. many skincare brands turned up and i got lost in a dizzy of high-end products, all of which were above and beyond my price range, so i dug some more.
the MICHAEL TODD TRUE ORGANICS line was a sort of “rediscovery”; i had heard about it from youtube gurus long ago but never paid much attention since i wasn’t really into skincare — and pricey ones at that. however i watched and read dozens more reviews on the line and while i knew a lot of them were sponsored, i felt like the brand must still have some merit since it is an all-natural line that really seems to value beneficial ingredients, as well as ethical practices.
most products from the true organics line is actually beyond my usual skincare budget, but i convinced myself to try out the blue-green algae toner ($18.50), since it seemed to be the step crucially missing from my routine back then.
the first pleasant surprise i found was the size: it comes in a hefty 250ml purple bottle, a generous amount of toner that won’t soon run out even with daily use. on the front it is described as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial solution that is highly moisturizing and appropriate for all skin types. it supposedly aids in treatment and prevention of acne, too. all good things in my book.
on the back of the bottle of course is a comprehensive list of 97% organic ingredients, including some really good stuff like hyaluronic acid, tea tree oil and citric acid. my initial whiff of the scent overwhelmed me a little: an arresting combination of lavender and birchwood, which i found to be rather unique. after a few days’ use i got used to it and am now truly obsessed with the luxurious, all-natural scent.
i have been using the toner once or twice a day for the last two months and it is one of my favorite parts of my entire skincare regimen. unlike most other toners this does not feel drying; it really is more like a treat for the skin. alongside the other wonderful products that i use (like this and this), the blue-green algae toner helps control my break-outs — even during my once-a-month hormonal surge — though not completely eliminate them. on the occasional sleepy/exhausted/lazy night i would just use this on my face (plus a make-up remover beforehand, if necessary) and feel confident that my skin is clean and nourished. i think it also helps renew my skin little by little so the texture is softer and the tone more even.
i love love this product. so much so that i am now eyeing a bunch of others from the michael todd line…
