Every dancer in the world wants your role.
i went to see black swan during its advanced screening the other day and i can honestly say i am still utterly perplexed.
first off, i know i’m totally behind with this, but black swan just reached philippine shores (i waited for it patiently, as i am not one too savvy with downloading torrent movies on the interwebs) so my reaction is understandably delayed.
black swan was everything i expected it to be: thrilling, disturbing and hauntingly beautiful.
despite having read several gushing “zomg i HEART black swan” posts and reviews in the last few weeks, however, i came into the theater not having any knowledge of the plot itself (months of self-restraint, i tell you!). so there were still surprises for me at every turn, which at best fascinated me and, at worst, terrified my very being.
psychological thrillers aren’t exactly the type of movies i would recommend to just anybody, but i do love watching them. perhaps because, to me, they leave quite a lasting impression.
as most of you have probably found out one way or another, natalie portman is spectacular in the film. she gives a dizzying performance as nina: the talented, hard-working ballerina. right off the bat the audience gets the startling realization that she is not quite “right in the head”. indeed, as the movie progresses, one is left wondering which people, things and events are actually real and not a figment of her imagination. i certainly was.
but it’s all good. that’s the whole point of the movie after all! plus the rest of the cast was great and portrayed very believable characters. mila kunis was particularly stellar, and winona ryder nothing short of memorable (let’s just say i will never look at her the same way again).
safe to say, i really enjoyed the movie – although i can tell you it’s quite a feat when you are gasping for breath half the time.

You kind of remind me of Mila Kunis (which is high praise). You have that black swan look but I meant that in a very complimentary way. Must be the eyes!
I kind of wanted to dress like a ballerina after watching it. But I never want to send my future daughter to ballet now. HAHA 🙂

wow, it took that long to reach phils?? anyhoo, this movie kept me gasping for breath. they're all amazing and it really did leave me that feeling of which one is real or not.. same thing after they showed the very last scene of inception. i wasn't too sure if it was still "a dream in a dream." LOL. anyway, awesome movie..

I won't even attempt to question the minds who made this award-winning film. I'm sure it really is a work of art and a product film and arts enthusiasts crave for. Personally though, it was not the escape I was hoping for after a day of hard work. *lol*…maybe it's also my fault…I shouldn't have watched it before going to bed. I should have probably watched it in the morning when my mind is still able to tolerate disturbing things.

I am not usually one for a thriller but I can not pass up a fashionable movie or Natalie Portman so I saw this of course. I really enjoyed it, I went solo to the theater and was completely sucked in to the drama and left bewildered and a bit freaked out.
